Card Options

There are a number of different card options available for your stationery to be printed on. The options available will depend on the printing, colours and finish of your invitation.

Below is an explanation of the common cards we use here at Be My Guest. There’s a couple of photos too, but please be aware that it’s pretty hard to represent colour accurately over a computer. That’s because colour appearance will vary from computer to computer depending on colour, contrast, and brightness settings on each computer, and surrounding lighting conditions.

Your very best option is to order a Sample Pack where you can get a range of swatches to see the card in the flesh.

Environmentally conscious wedding invitations

I’ve included more details on each card types manufacturing process, so you can understand a bit more about the impact your chosen card has on our environment.

The short version is, yes I can source recycled card. If you let me know in advance, I can also use recycled packaging for sending your order – I always have a stash of pre-loved packaging materials that I’m happy to reuse.

The long version is, using recycled paper is not always as ‘green’ as you think it is. Selecting a paper that’s created from farmed trees, with a mill powered by renewable energy can be a better choice than recycled sometimes – “The truth is that virgin fiber harvested using recognized third-party certified sustainable forestry practices is as environmentally sound as the use of recycled paper” (Source).

I don’t use recycled card as standard practice because the card range I do use is selected for printing well. It is purchased in bulk sizes, meaning less transportation and less packaging, which is better for the environment too. Making sure we use a card that prints well also means less waste – less card jamming in the press, less reprints due to defects.

Standard White Card

There’s two “standard” white cards we print on – one is quite glossy and is 300gsm. It’s a shiny surface perfect for printing a full flood colour onto.  It is an environmentally responsible paper, produced using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) Third Party certified pulp from Responsible Sources, and manufactured under the strict ISO14001 Environmental Management System.

Pictured below are invitations printed on the standard white card:

The other standard white card we print onto has a flat, matt appearance and is 240gsm. As it’s a lighter weight card, we only use it for smaller items where weight is not a consideration. It is also an environmentally responsible paper, produced using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) pulp, sourced from Sustainable & Legally Harvested Farmed Trees, and manufactured under the strict ISO14001 Environmental Management System.

Deluxe Eggshell

This 285gsm card has a lightly textured surface and a matt finish. One of my absolute favourites! It is an environmentally responsible paper, produced using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF), Third Party certified pulp from Responsible Sources, and manufactured under a mill specific management system using non-polluting, wind generated electricity through the purchase of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from windpower projects.

We are able to access a recycled card which has a similar look and feel to the deluxe eggshell, for no extra charge.  Please place your order using the Deluxe Eggshell option, then let us know as soon as possible if you’d like the recycled option (letting us know quickly will avoid delays, as we need to order it in).

Coloured Cards – Cream, Grey

(with other colours available on request)

The coloured card range have warm colours with a smooth soft texture. They are environmentally responsible paper, produced using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) Third Party certified pulp from Responsible Sources, and manufactured under the strict ISO14001 Environmental Management System.

Metallic Card (Quartz & Silver)

Another favourite of mine, the metallic cards give a beautiful metallic lustre to any invitation. The Quartz is a 285gsm off-white card has a lovely shimmer which adds a touch of glamour and luster to any invitation. The silver metallic card is also 285gsm. It has a metallic shimmer through it, giving it a lovely shimmer.

The metallic card range is also an environmentally responsible paper, produced using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) Third Party certified pulp from Responsible Sources, and manufactured under the strict ISO14001 Environmental Management System. Conforms to ISO9706 requirements for permanence.

Kraft

This brown, organic look card is a popular choice.

Our standard kraft card is a environmentally responsible paper, produced using Third Party Certified pulp from Responsible Sources.

We also offer a recycled kraft card, which doesn’t print as well as our standard kraft card – so we only use this on request, and can only print single sided when using this material. As well as being an environmentally responsible paper, produced using Third Party Certified pulp from Responsible Sources, it also has 30% Post Consumer recycled fibre, and is manufactured under a strict Mill Specific Management System. It’s also made with 100% Certified Renewable Energy, and is Green Seal Certified.
